HOW DID YOU GET THE JOB YOU HAVE NOW? I rodeoed professionally for 15 years, then I broke both legs in a tractor accident. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I had compound fractures in both ankles, so I had to quit rodeo, and I got in the production and management business. I got in the people business. I love people. We like our business. It’s the roughest, toughest, fiercest, finest, most exciting damn sport in the world.
FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I love riding around the arena during the National Anthem, tipping my cowboy hat to the American flag and going around and shaking all the little kids hands and letting them pet the horses.
FREE TIME PURSUITS: We raise bucking horses and bulls, and that’s what I love.
MAN VS. ANIMAL: In the rodeo business, we have bull riding schools, bronc riding schools and roping schools. They even have bucking machines for the guys to ride. My poor animals have to work twice as hard to buck them off now, because animals can’t go to school.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: Working with the prospects and the clients. It’s the people. Having a strong, viable technology solution that I believe in and working with people who I respect.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU WEREN’T IN TICKETING: I’d love to have a little farm shop in the countryside of Scotland.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE A KID: A history professor. I love history and I come from a family of teachers.
FREE TIME PURSUITS: Travel through Europe. I love tiny, walled, medieval towns.
WHAT PERSON IN HISTORY WOULD YOU WANT TO MEET: Harry Truman, because I loved his philosophy of the buck stops here. He inherited a mess, and I think he did a really great job with it.
WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU: I was a theater major. I originally started on the other side of the footlights, but I quickly discovered I wasn’t going to feed myself if I was going to stay. I did a bunch of productions in college, professional dinner theater and there used to be a wonderful semiprofessional theater here in Denver that I did a bunch of shows with. My favorite show was “Annie Get Your Gun.” I wanted to be Ethel Merman. I can sing a mean musical.
BEST ADVICE: Walk your talk. Your handshake means your word. And you’ll never be wrong if you’re honest.

CAPS Payroll
CURRENT CITY: Riverside, Calif.
WHAT YOU DO: I collaborate with festivals, live events organizers and venues to understand what their needs are in terms of their part-time, temp and full-time work forces, so we can plan accordingly to process their payroll. I also work to ensure we have the proper digital package bundled with whatever services we’re going to offer them, and that includes electronic timecards and clock-in systems.
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR JOB: The company’s initiative with my role was to expand into the venue side. They posted the position on IAVM, and a friend sent it to me. I thought it would be something intriguing, so I threw my hat in the ring and pursued it. Several conversations later, it was a no-brainer.
IF YOU COULD ESCAPE FOR THE DAY, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: I would like to go to Paris. I’ve never been but my wife has, and I like to gawk at her photos. It’s a beautiful city and I could probably just get lost, in a good way, in the culture of Paris.
MUSIC: I have a very diverse taste in music. Right now, I’m into the U2 Pandora channel.
SPORTS: Other than the Yankees, I’m a New York Giants fan and a die-hard Cincinnati Bearcats and Old Dominion University Monarchs follower.
GUILTY PLEASURE: I like eclectic foods with fusions of flavors.
