There are a number of historic landmarks in the Deep South and although this designation does not apply to the region’s venues, there are some now celebrating a history of success.

The Von Braun Center, Huntsville, Ala., recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a number of festivities, including the inaugural Von Braun Music Run 5k and Fun Run and an open house.

Its four decades also were commemorated with sold-out performances by legendary performer Elton John and an Elvis Tribute Artists Concert for the Vets featuring Shawn Klush and Cody Ray Slaughter.

Bossier City, La.’s CenturyLink Center has a number of events planned to celebrate its 15th year in operation.

The venue announced a social media contest, requesting longtime patrons to upload at least five photos of themselves or family members attending shows over the years at the center to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The winner will receive two tickets to a sold out show.

“We’re looking for photos of families from the early 2000s at family shows and then in the subsequent years as they get older,” said Jake Wood, director of sales and marketing. “For those who live in a community long enough, venues like ours become a part of their lives. That’s what we’re tapping into with this contest.”

“Our building looked like it was built in the 90s, so we needed a fresh look and updated colors to better blend in with our downtown,” said Todd Hunt, executive director. “One of the other improvements we invested in was to add a true theater curtaining system that allows us to cut down our seating area to as small as 1,800 seats.”
