"Newsies" The Musical’s first national tour has made it onto our Hot Ticket’s chart for the fifth time this week. The Disney Theatrical Productions stage production, which premiered on Broadway in 2012, began its tour on Oct. 12, 2014 at Proctor’s Theater, Schenectady, N.Y., for a 43-week tour of 25 cities across North America. The eight-show run at Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Nashville, Tenn., very nearly sold out with more than 18,000 fans in attendance between May 26-31. With ticket prices ranging from $25 to $70, the in-house promoted shows grossed $810,000. The Newsies' next stop at Durham (N.C.) Performing Arts Center grossed nearly $1.2 million. June 2-7 saw 21,000 in attendance at the in-house and Buena Vista Theatrical Group-promoted events. Ticket prices ranged from $20 to $135 over the eight shows in Durham. While the Newsies are wrapping up their current run at The National Theatre, Washington, they will head to Boston Opera House June 23-July 5.
Romeo Santos began his #VOL2WORLDTOUR with a North American leg in Sacramento, Calif., at Sleep Train Arena May 21. The 25-stop tour runs until August at arenas across America. The Latin bachata artist is taking the international music scene by storm, including our Hot Tickets chart. At Laredo (Texas) Energy Arena, Santos brought in 4,000 fans with ticket prices ranging from $57 to $122. The Live Nation- and LEMS-promoted concert grossed $350,000 on May 31. At his next stop in Houston at Toyota Center on June 3, more than 11,000 fans packed into the Live Nation-promoted stop. With ticket prices ranging from $50 to $150, the event grossed more than $1 million. Santos’ next stop is in Atlanta at The Arena at Gwinnett Center on June 18.
