When it comes to university venues, University Concert Hall (UCH), the largest live entertainment and conference venue in the region, is one to watch. Opened in 1993, the facility is located in the Foundation Building on Ireland’s University of Limerick campus and has a seating capacity of 1,038.
“In 2015, UCH received an Irish Music Rights Organisation Award for the best live performance venue in Munster for 2014 as well as the Limerick Chamber Award in Best Sport/Art/Culture category,” said Emma Foote, marketing manager.
Over 160 events were promoted in 2015, resulting in the venue attracting 85,000 audience members from across over 20 counties in Ireland as well as the UK, U.S. and throughout mainland Europe.
UCH attracts performers across the genres of music, comedy, theater and classical.
The venue also has become a destination for conference business, which, in 2015, included the weeklong 36th World Medical & Health Games with 1,000 delegates, and the 10th International Alexander Technique Congress, with 800 delegates.
There are currently over 90 concerts and events already confirmed for 2016, including significant productions such as a weeklong run of Landmark Productions Breaking Dad and a Gala 1916 Commemorative Concert featuring the Defence Forces Band.
“UCH will invest approximately 100k in new staging and technical equipment over the coming 12 to18 months, including upgraded lighting and sound systems, a new film projector and new risers,” said Foote.
