Monty Jones Jr. started his new job as GM of Hoover (Ala.) Metropolitan Complex, just outside Birmingham, Dec. 5 for private management firm Sport Facility Management. He had been GM at the Macon (Ga.) Centreplex for Spectra, a company he worked for since 2004, including a stint as GM of Gila River Arena, Glendale, Ariz.
He has now entered into the amateur sports world fulltime. Sport Facility Management also operates Sport Advisory. The company is based in Clearwater, Fla.
The new complex consists of Hoover Met Stadium, an 11,000-seat baseball stadium, and the under-construction Finley Center, a 155,000-sq.-ft. indoor facility that includes 11 basketball courts, 17 volleyball courts and indoor rock climbing. Finley Center opens in May.
To be completed in the spring of 2018 are the outdoor fields – five football/soccer/lacrosse/rugby fields, five baseball/softball fields and 16 tennis courts. All are National Collegiate Athletic Association regulated, Jones said.
“This is a great opportunity with the projects that are coming on and a great up-and-coming compay to work for. Sport Facility Management currently operates 12-15 venues," Jones said.
Asked about his contact list of agents, managers and promoters given the sports field he’s now in, Jones replied: “We have a stadium perfect for festivals and we have indoor facilities for concerts and trade shows.”
Jones is a recipient of the Venues Today Generation Next Award.
