Kenny Chesney closed out his "No Shoes Nation" tour with one of his highest grossing stops ever, bringing in $9.5 million with two dates at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, Mass., in late August as part of New England Country Fest. The shows were co-promoted by The Messina Group and Kraft Entertainment, the concert wing of Patriot owner Robert Kraft's sports and entertainment conglomerate.
Overseas, Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil is continuing its trek through Asia with five shows at MasterCard Center in Beijing, followed by five shows at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai and five shows at AsiaWorld-Expo Arena in Hong Kong. The combined dates, all co-promoted by AEG, grossed a total of $2.4 million.
Pop star Justin Beiber hit the $1-million mark with an Aug. 8 date at Tampa (Fla.) Bay Times Forum. Ten days later, WWE SummerSlam pulled in about $1.3-million in front of 14,166 fans at Staples Center in L.A. Fans paid as much as $450 a ticket to see Daniel Bryan defeat champion John Cena, and Randy Orton unseat champion Daniel Bryan.
