Dave Poe
Nederlander Entertainment has hired former booking agent Dave Poe to serve as Talent Buyer. Poe will assist in booking Nederlander’s portfolio of venues that includes The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and other California venues including the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, City National Grove of Anaheim, City National Civic of San Jose, Galen Center in Los Angeles and the Santa Barbara Bowl.
Poe began his career at The Agency Group in New York in 2005 as an intern and later went to work for Philip Citron and Randy Chaplin before returning to The Agency Group to work with Steve Martin, president of North America (Martin is now with APA).
He eventually moved to LA and represented The Cat Empire, The Green, Trevor Hall, A Tribe Called Red, K-OS, and Wax Tailor.
“My genre was very eclectic — from rock acts to reggae, with folk and electronic,” he said. “I was kind of all over the place. When I heard an act and I had a lot of passion for the act, I would go for it. A lot of agents may be specific in the genres they book, but I was all over the board.”
Poe started his new job on Monday and will assist CEO Alex Hodges and Senior VP Ken Scher in finalizing the summer schedules — The Greek Theater will announce its summer calendar in March.
“Because I’ve grown in the agency atmosphere for so long, I know the drill and understand what the agents are going through on a daily basis,” he said.
He said he was attracted to Nederlander because, like The Agency Group, the L.A. outfit is a boutique shop that allowed him to take a more hands-on role.
“The Agency Group was not a big corporate monster like the other big agencies,” he said. “And when you work at Nederlander, as opposed to Live Nation or AEG, you get to work with great people in great situations and venues. I really like the family atmosphere here.”
