Christmas-themed shows are all wrapping up. "A Christmas Story: The Musical" played 27 shows at Madison Square Garden in New York, bringing nearly 100,000 people to the venue for a gross of nearly $6 million. Also in New York, Radio City Music Hall wrapped its annual run of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This year's 210 performances brought more than 1 million people to the venue, for a total gross of more than $76.7 million. Both shows were promoted by MSG Entertainment. Coming up, Radio City Music Hall presents Masters of Ceremony on Jan. 24, a hip hop reunion concert featuring DMX, Naughty By Nature and Biz Markie.
It was a good week for country music. "King George" Strait is in the second year of his final two-year Cowboy Rides Away tour. His Jan. 10 show at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, brought more than 16,500 fans to the facility. Next, he heads to SAP Center at San Jose, Calif., Jan. 30, before playing at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., the next night. Lady Antebellum brought nearly 7,000 fans to Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, Jan. 11. The Live Nation-promoted show grossed more than $350,000. Next, the group heads to Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., Jan. 23, and EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Jan. 24.
Fox Theatre in Atlanta set a record for its highest-grossing single event with Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman. The Jan.10 show grossed nearly $900,000, with tickets ranging $75-$550. "The Book of Mormon" kicks off at the venue Jan. 28, followed by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on Feb. 13.
