The Backstreet Boys'March 19 concert was one of four shows at Hallenstadion, Zurich, to make this week's Hot Tickets chart. The boy band brought out more than 9,000 fans for a gross of more than $650,000. The show comes after the band's announcement that they have extended their In A World Like This tour in the U.S. to hit markets that sold out quickly in 2013, and ones they were unable to visit. Backstreet Boys return to North America on May 3 with a date at Moncton (New Brunswick) Coliseum. Added shows include a May 29 stop at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.; CenturyLink CenterOmaha, Neb., June 9; and Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., June 10, among others.
Andrea Berg grossed just over $1 million at Hallenstadion, March 14, and James Blunt stopped at the venue March 17. The six-show Art on Ice series, Feb. 27-March 2, brought more than 50,000 attendees to Hallenstadion for a gross of more than $5.5 million.
Australian venues Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and Perth Arena dominated the largest capacity category. Lionel Richie and John Farnham came together in a co-headlining show for two shows at Rod Laver Arena, March 16-17. The Dainty Group-promoted shows had tickets starting at more than $100, leading to a gross of more than $3.3 million. The two artists had teamed up for a co-headlining tour across Australia and New Zealand during March, including a stop at CBS Canterbury Arena in Christchurch, March 20.
A couple of weeks prior, Bruno Mars played two dates at Rod Laver Arena, also grossing more than $3 million. Before that, he played at Perth Arena, Feb. 28, for more than 14,500 fans. Mars will head to his home state of Hawaii to perform three shows at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, April 18-21. Queens of the Stone Age played two shows with Nine Inch Nails at Rod Laver Arena, March 14-15, attended by a total of more than 17,000 people. The bands later stopped at three New Zealand venues: Vector Arena in Auckland, March 19; TSB Bank Arena in Wellington, March 20; and CBS Canterbury Arena in Christchurch, March 22.
