The International Ticketing Association’s 34th Annual Conference & Exhibition, Magical Service Sparks Real Results! was held in Florida this past January. There were over 1,000 conference participants from around the world with the exhibition featuring the latest in products and services specifically for the ticketing industry.

Steered by Conference Committee Chair Anna Zirbel — the Box Office Manager at Thrasher Horne Center for the Arts in Orange Park, Fla. — this three-day event featured 30 educational sessions, two keynotes and eight breakout sessions by type of organization.

Conference programming was based on learning tracks and educational sessions developed by entertainment ticketing professionals. Key learning tracks included Operational Management, Marketing, Technology and Personnel Management. Some of the most well received sessions were “Abilities (Serving People with Disabilities),” “How Small Pricing Decisions Make a Big Difference,” “ A Structured Approach to System Selection: Getting what you need from Technology,” and “Doing More with Less at the University Box Office.” Speaker presentations are available as a resource on the website at intix.org.

The pinnacle of the conference week is the presentation of the INTIX Awards, created to honor those members who have demonstrated exceptional professionalism and achievement through innovative, informative and creative management. The five winners are profiled on page 42 and as you can tell from their accomplishments, each has played a very valuable role strengthening both our association and the ticketing industry.

The Board of Directors served breakfast and the latest Association news during the annual business meeting, which included the Board installation. The gavel was passed from Robert Bennett of the Tampa Bay (Fla.) Rays to Mardi Dilger of the Miami Marlins who is now serving as Board Chair. Robert continues as Past Chair and Jennifer Aprea of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas is Chair-Elect. Serving a first term on the Board is Carrie Farina of Cirque du Soleil; Geo Haynes of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco and April Moon of Massey and Roy Thomson Halls in Toronto.

Plans are already underway for the 35th Annual Conference & Exhibition at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers Jan. 28-30, 2014.
