Cirque du Soleil's latest Big Top venture, Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities, debuted to more than 200,000 attendees at Big Top Tent at the Quays of the Old Port in Montreal. The hometown crowd supported the 104 performances April 24-July 14. The in-house promoted run grossed more than $15.8 million. The steampunk-inspired show will open at the Port of Québec July 24, traveling to Toronto Aug. 28 at The Port Lands before making its U.S. debut under the Big Top at AT&T Park in San Francisco, Nov. 14-Dec. 31.
The (mostly) complete comedic troupe of Monty Python has the stage for five shows, July 1-5, at The O2 Arena in London. Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, John Cleese and Terry Jones brought nearly 75,000 fans to the arena. Even without original member Graham Chapman who passed away in 1989 — hence the Monty Python Live (Mostly) : One Down, Five To Go, title — the troupe still commanded high ticket prices reaching nearly $845. The high prices for the Phil McIntyre Entertainment-promoted show contributed to a gross of more than $12 million.
