After 16 months as CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Tim Leiweke has announced plans to leave by June 30 next year or when a successor is appointed. Leiweke expressed interest in starting his own company though he has told Venues Today in an email that that company is not yet firm.

Noting he is going to stay “very quiet” for now while he finishes some projects in Toronto with MLSE and its sports teams, venues and festivals. He will be moving on to something entrepreneurial next year.

Asked if he is coming back to L.A., where he was famously CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group for 15 years, building that empire for billionaire Phil Anschutz, Leiweke wrote that he leased his house for three years and has not yet determined where his new company will be based.

Leiweke was 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award winner at Sports, Entertainment & Venues Tomorrow (SEVT), produced by the University of South Carolina and Venues Today. Like most visionaries, he clearly has more to achieve.
